Fair Trade Policy

Profits generated from courses are redistributed as followed:

  • Scholarship – one or more, full or partial
  • PermaFund donation (40% of total profits)
  • Financial or physical support to local projects (donation of equipment, of time, of labour, etc.)

Sharing abundance

  • Our rates are generally lower than those of our profession (professional training) and they align with similar rates provided for permaculture trainings across the globe.
  • There are ‘participatory’ type courses, which rates are designed to suit smaller budgets. We invite you to view and compare offers, length of courses, topics covered, teaching styles, location, etc.
  • Our fees cover for more than 2/3 of the organizational costs. They allow, among other things, to buy books and magazines related to permaculture, hire an assistant and caterers, and source local organic food (always more expensive than fruits and vegetables bought in the supermaket!).
  • The remaining 1/3 remunerate the professional work of teachers, profession born after years of personal and financial investment.
  • We also offer a personalized 12 months follow-up programme that allows students to “keep an eye on the road” and assist them in their implementation of permaculture. To date, we know of no permaculture teachers who systematically provide this support.

Scholarships and discounts

  • We offer discounts for groups, preferential rates for residents and solutions for those in financial difficulties.
  • We offer scholarships, either full or partial, for students whose permaculture training will create an economically and socially viable project, and which activities respond to permaculture ethics. Scholarship applicants are required to write a letter explaining the details of their project. This project must comply with the principles of economic and social sustainability, environmental or community regeneration, and of course, permaculture principles. In order to qualify for a scholarship, we also ask applicants to provide two references. Contact us for more details on how to apply.

Project support

  • We support (mentor) the launch of a project (or an individual -often our host or one of our students) that meets principles defined above. It may be the design of a ecocentre, of a permaculture farm, a community garden, alternative education, age care, etc..
  • We translate permaculture books and references, voluntarily for some, and allow the diffusion of permaculture knowledge in Francophone countries.

The course teacher

I am a professional permaculture teacher – this is my main occupation from which I derive a modest livelihood. My skills are constantly updated with continuing education and peer review.

I cover all topics included in the curriculum developed by B. Mollison and D. Holmgren. Adds to that:

  • Continuing education or self-study of specific topics related to permaculture (i.e. regenerative agriculture, passive rehydration of rural landscapes, myco-restoration, aquaponics, mushroom cultivation, bee keeping, etc.).
  • Multicultural experience of permaculture design in different climates, latitudes and cultures
  • Mentoring by other permaculture teachers

Investment in our community

  • We sponsor film screenings and discussions related to permaculture topics.
  • We invest in our community in the form of labour, donation, volunteering, etc for projects that enable the broadcasting, the education and the practice of permaculture.
  • We contribute to, and are members of, several associations and collectives: Permaculture International (Australia), Permafund (Australia), Permaculture Central Coast.
